Dressed to Sparkle

This card is an almost exact copy of a card by Katherine LaPierre (I only changed the sentiment). When she gave it to our group of swappers, you could actually hear the jaws hit the ground - we were electrified, stupefied . . just plain speechless. I've proudly displayed it to my hostess group who, after months and months of pleading, finally convinced me to dissect the original so I could demonstrate it to them. Hold on to your jaws . . .

Here are the materials.

Did you get all that?

• Stamps: Pick a Petal and a sentiment stamp. I used Warm Words.
• Paper: Tempting Turquoise, Chocolate Chip (textured if you like), Whisper White, Vellum paper 5 1/2" by 3" and 1" x 1". Note, use paper quality vellum, not card stock quality. (Did you know there's a difference?)
• Ink: Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White Craft
• Misc: Petal Punch, Icicles Rhinestone Brads, Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon, white detail embossing powder for the sentiment if you choose 

Randomly stamp the two vellum pieces with the solid flower stamp using Tempting Turquoise ink. Vellum takes a long time to try. So do this first. You might even want to let it dry overnight.

After the vellum dries, you can very lightly score the 5-1/2" by 3" piece every 3/4" and then fold it into an accordion or fan fold, with each fold about 3/4" apart so that your folded piece is 5-1/2" by 3/4".

 

Fold this over again in half. Use a bone folder for a crisp fold.

When you open up the vellum piece again, it should look something like this.

 

Just set that aside. Assemble your card base with whatever sentiment your choose.

Trace the skirt template onto Tempting Turquoise card stock and cut it out. Randomly stamp the flower image with Tempting Turquoise ink.

Here's an LMac exclusive tip: When you're randomly stamping to make your own designer paper, stamp in groups of three - it will help you with spacing. Don't re-ink your stamp every time, so you get more variety of color. And, finally, don't forget to rotate your stamp around so all your images aren't facing the same direction and to stamp a few off the edge of the paper.

 

Stamp one petal and cut it out. 

Cut the petal in half to make the bodice.

Attach the two petal halves to the skirt so the overall dress is 4” tall. Glue the small 1" x 1" vellum behind the bodice.

Cinching it at the waist, attach the top of the folded vellum piece to the waist of the skirt.

Wrap the Chocolate Chip grosgrain ribbon around the skirt and glue it down in the back. Add your brad to the punched out flower and adhere it to the dress. Attach your assembled dress to the base of your card with pop-up dimensionals. And . . . you’re ready to sparkle.
