My father-in-law, Robert Donald McClain, died peacefully in his home on Sunday, August 5. As much as we miss him, we're glad he no longer has to endure this horrible cancer. We're comforted in the fact that he didn't have to suffer through some of the worst indignities colon and liver cancer can bring, and that he got to visit with all six of his children before he gently drifted to sleep. Through it all he held firmly to his faith and, as he always did before he became ill, he had a huge smile and a twinkle in his eye for every visitor. I hope I someday have at least half the grace that he did.
Today my husband and his youngest brother had the most difficult task of trying to appropriately pay tribute to their father in his obituary. It's so hard to try to capture what an incredible man my father-in-law was and how much he was loved in such a limited medium as an obituary, but, they did a lovely job. Thank you for all your kind words. Please pray for my husband's family as they travel from New York, Arizona, Ohio, Indiana, Oklahoma, and of course, Texas, to lay my father-in-law to rest in Colorado.
