I am the luckiest lady . . . but first, a card.
When I saw Laura Fredrickson's card, here, I knew I had to have the Tart and Tangy stamp set. I would never think to combine orange and red together (probably because my Dad always said he hated to see red and yellow together - reminded him of ketchup and mustard). But, Laura's color selections are very bold and rich, just as I imagine a casino would be. I made just a few changes to Laura's card. I've actually never been to Vegas or played a slot machine, but in my imagination the gambling casinos are rich and glamorous - so I brought in the Paisley background stamp and a Cuttlebug embossing folder. The other change was to try to make the square windows look more like the slot machines by popping the red three-window panel up and putting a ransparency sheet under in it to look like a window, kind of like a shaker-box without the shaker.
I hope you'll visit Laura's site and tell her Linda sent you. When you do, you'll see she used 1-1/4" and 1 3/8" punches to make her slot machine. I did mine just a little differently. First I made a grid using Microsoft word, overlaid the grid over my real red cardstock piece and punched out the squares with the 1-1/4" punch - so I got this . . .
Then, I used Real Red and Old Olive markers to ink up the cherry image.
If you haven't done this before, you just color directly onto the rubber.
Then, I laid my grid down to help me position my stamp onto the white card stock.
The first stamped image will look like this:
Repeating that process, and then adding the orange image inked with Pumpkin Pie, you get this:
Trim that to just a little smaller than your red piece.
Now, lay your red three-window panel piece face down, glue your transparency piece to the red piece (I used two-way glue), and then add pop-up adhesive to the transparency sheet:
Attach this so that you have a sandwich of the Real Red three-window panel, transparency, pop-up, and your white cardstock with the stamped images.
The whole recipe:
- Stamps: Tart and Tangy, Paisley (background stamp), Smarty Pants
- Ink: Basic black for the sentiment, Pumpkin Pie for the orange, Versamark for the Paisley background, and Real Red and Old Olive markers for the cherry
- Cardstock: Real Red, textured Basic Black, textured Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White
- Other: Transparency sheet, Basic Black grosgrain ribbon, black brads, photo corner punch, Cuttlebug embossing folder
Okay - so why am I exceptionally lucky? It's official, I'm going to the Stampin' Up! convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the end of July. It's such a popular event that getting registered, finding a flight and getting a hotel was not an easy task, but my stars were aligned apparently. And, if that's not enough to make me burst with excitement, my sister is joining me from Indiana. My adorable sister loves me so much, she became a Stampin' Up! demonstrator just so she could go to the convention with me. We are going to have so much fun - you'll definitely be hearing about our preparations and adventures! Wouldn't you agree? I am such a lucky lady!
